Some "Soundbites" on the Nature of Television

An Edited Version of Newton Minnow's 1961 Speech on the nature of television

Regarding the Final Paper:

I urge you to spend a good deal of time working and reworking your final paper. This is not an intro level class for freshmen. I'm expecting a good deal of polish and evidence of hard work in it. As I stated a bit earlier, you can turn in your paper as late as Friday, Dec. 5th by 5:00 pm - or Thursday - before incurring a one-letter grade penalty. I would prefer you hand it in on Wednesday, the 3rd, but I would also rather that you proofread it very, very carefully before you submit it to me. Be ready to discuss your paper briefly today and have any questions ready.

READING: We'll discuss the Jostein Gripsrud article, beginning pg. 210 in TV/TV and go over premium channel programming on Monday, Dec. 1st. On Wednesday, we will review for the final exam.
