Next Assignment: For tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 18th, you are to have a rough outline of your final paper that begins with your thesis statement and ends with an abstract of approximately one paragraph in length, that summarizes what you are trying to say in your paper. Remember that the paper itself, with References, is due on the last day of class, Friday, Dec. 4th. You should be finished well before that date so you can have it read and re-read by yourself and others, correcting all spelling, typing and grammatical errors.

After the outline, a rough draft of the first 4 pages will be due just before we break for Thanksgiving, Monday, Nov. 23rd.
If you need help writing an outline, contact the Center for Academic Excellence here on campus or go online to one of many writing centers across the country for examples and format help.

Reading: You should be reading Chapter 9 in the Mittell text on "Viewing Television". In tomorrow's class we will discuss your outlines briefly, then this chapter and cover the genre of reality TV.

A sample - possible - thesis for the program The Sopranos:

Within its portrayal of New Jersey mobsters as seemingly ordinary members of the state's upper class, the show's characterization of Carmela Soprano is complicated and subtle,
revealing a moral compass missing in her husband and one which could often influence him more than he wanted or was even aware.
