Our Students in the Division of Nursing at Spring Hill College are participants in on-campus activities, as well as, off-campus activities.
The Student Nurses Association (SNA) at Spring Hill College is active in the community. In 2004-2005 they participated in, and helped sponsor, the Mobile AIDS walk, the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, community painting projects, fund raising for St. Judes Hospital & research. Members have traveled to Birmingham for a leadership workshop, and 3 students were elected to State Executive Office.
In 2004 the SNA added to their list of accomplishments by winning two state-wide awards: Best Project, for their involvement in the community, and Best Newsletter for their website. Visit the website at www.shc.edu/sna
The students go to local elementary schools and teach the children about handwashing as part of the Scrubby Bear program. Seniors put on a Health Fair which draws people from across the city.
Spring Hill nursing students have a life outside school. Most have part time jobs, working as hospital techs and aides, paramedics, or care givers. Some are married and have children.
Student Nurses are very involved on campus. They are on volley ball, cross-country, tennis, dance and baseball teams. One represented us at the National Collegiate Ironman and came in 10th! Another ran her first marathon while in nursing school. They participate in sororities and fraternities. They are members of the Homecoming Court, the Mardi Gras Court (one was the Queen of Mardi Gras). Spring Hill nursing students are a vibrant, active and enthusiastic bunch. They are plugged into the communities they serve, and serve the communities they love.
