
The nursing curriculum consists of two phases: pre-professional and professional. The pre-professional phase is open to all students declaring nursing as their major and consists of the courses included in the first four semesters of the program. Admission the professional phase, which begins the second semester of the sophomore year, involves the fulfillment of specific requirements and a separate application reviewed by the nursing faculty. Students must apply for admission to the professional phase one semester prior to completion of the required pre-professional and prerequisite courses. Enrollment is limited and admission process is selective and competitive.
Minimum criteria for admission to the professional phase:
- Achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 in all prerequisite courses and a 2.5 Spring Hill College average.
- Submit a complete and accurate nursing professional program application.
- Successfully complete an admission interview and/or written paper.
- Achieve a minimum of C- in BIO 131, 132, 133, 134; MTH 111, 113, or 121; CHM 101; PSY 101, 304; NUR 101, 102, and 201.
- Achieve a passing composite percentage on the Nursing Entrance test (NET).
- Complete any remedial work recommended by the faculty adviser.
- Submit health records required by the Division of Nursing.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The sixty semester hour college core curriculum servers as the foundation for the specialized nursing curriculum. In addition to this core curriculum, students complete seventeen additional hours in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and developmental and abnormal psychology. Sixty-two hours are required in the nursing major for a total of 136 hours required for graduation. Students must adhere to the program curriculum sequence.
Computer-based applications are integrated throughout the program. Writing and speech are inherent components of the majority of nursing courses, and written and oral competency requirements are fulfilled in Senior Seminars I and II. Students must achieve a passing grade on the nursing comprehensive examination which is administered during the senior year.
In order to qualify for graduation in nursing, students must meet, in addition to the general graduation requirements of the College, the following criteria:
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
- Competency exams in content areas will be repeated if the national passing score is not achieved
- Complete the nursing comprehensive examination during the senior year with a passing score.
- Initiate plans for licensure prior to graduation.
