The
Ecology laboratory, BIO357, is held twice a week in conjunction with the lecture
course. The purpose of the lab is
to provide practical application to modern ecological concepts studied in the
lecture portion. In addition, it is
of critical importance that students learn simple statistical analysis.
The following are specific objectives:
Students
will design and implement a short group research project.
Students
will learn simple parametric statistical methods (descriptional, t-tests,
regression and ANOVAS)
Students
will write lab reports
Students
will learn standard ecological sampling techniques (quadrats, transects,
point-quarter methods)
Prerequisites: concurrent enrollment in BIO355.
